OLD IS GOLD SLUM YOUTH (OGSY) was incepted in 2002 as a self help youth sports and community development project for the slum in Nairobi. The main aim of OLD IS GOLD SLUM YOUTH (OGSY) is to use sports as a tool for change in a community that is socially excluded from meaning development that would guarantee enjoyment of human rights as enshrined in the constitution and international conventions on human rights.
Targeting young mothers (14 -20yrs) OGSY reaches 1500 youths every year through soccer, community service and reproductive health education forums. Over the years, we have managed to participate in soccer tournaments both in Kenya and internationally, also we have been able to identify need cases such as pregnancies and education through which we have been able to link 150 youth with reproductive health related services. 50 young mothers have been enrolled into various vocational training.
Through sports, OGSY has been able to sustain regular reproductive health dialogue circles before training sessions and during the matches. Through the dialogue circles forums, also we have been able to provide scholarship through friends of OGSY to cater for the school fees and uniforms. We have been instrumental in advancing girl child education in the community. We have supported 6 girls to access higher education both in Kenya and United States of America have also managed to assist most of our members go back to school, despite being young mothers.
Apart from sport, the youth also runs other programs namely; Batiks making, HIV/Aids, clean up Group, Environmental Conservation i.e. Planting of Trees and Tree Nurseries, leadership project where youths come together and work on leadership skills drama, music poetry, Girls Forums For the youths from Different Areas among others. Since 2002, OGSY is now among the best self help sports and community development project within Nairobi for young mothers and children.


MISSION
To change the day to day negative thinking and lifestyles of the young youths and single women who live within the sprawling Mathare slum and it environ, by creating awareness through positive activities.

VISION
To see the number of school going youths and young leaders in the slum increase, single women, orphan children, premarital sex, and poverty in the slum consistently reduced.

VALUES
By coming together as youths, who otherwise may have been hopeless with life, we believe in the long term rewards of developing our community, not only for ourselves, but to the benefit of the up coming generations.
